Welcome back to the CSC Garage! In this episode, we’ll walk you through the process of changing out the clutch kit in your RX4 adventure motorcycle. Whether you’re a seasoned rider or a DIY enthusiast, this straightforward tutorial will help you get the job done with just a few simple tools.
Tools Needed:
- 5 mm Allen wrench
- 10 mm socket
- Flat Screwdriver
- Magnet
- Engine Oil
- Torque Wrench
Step-by-Step Guide:
- Remove the Clutch Cover:
- Use a 5 mm Allen wrench to take off the clutch cover.
- Note the reusable gasket or have a replacement ready. (Replacement Gasket SKU: Z404-106)
- Unscrew the Springs:
- With a 10 mm socket, remove the screws that hold the springs in place.
- Take off the plate containing the springs.
- Inspect the Components:
- Observe the clutch kit components:
- Six metal discs (Replacement Steels SKU: Z406-124)
- Seven friction discs (two outer ones are different) (Replacement Friction Discs SKU: Z406-123)
- Six springs (which we’ll replace) (Replacement Pressure Plate Springs SKU: Z406-117)
- Disc Removal:
- Carefully remove the discs one by one, noting their order.
- The first disc is the outer friction disc.
- The last friction disc is different and serves as the full inner disc.
- Install the New Clutch Kit:
- Pay attention to the position of the rings and plates.
- Start with the flat ring, followed by the beveled ring.
- Install the friction discs and steel plates in the correct order.
- The outermost friction disc has a unique shade and thinner pads.
- The last friction plate should be positioned slightly off from the rest.
- Assemble the Clutch:
- Ensure the front plate is seated correctly.
- Attach the springs and bolts, gradually adding pressure.
- Torque the bolts to around 10 ft-lbs (aluminum case).
- Reattach the Clutch Cover:
- Place the gasket back in position (if reusable).
- Tighten the small fasteners (8-10 ft-lbs) using the 5 mm Allen wrench.
- Final Checks:
- Stand the bike upright.
- Start the engine and let it warm up.
- Check the oil level and top off if needed.
Enjoy the ride with your newly replaced clutch!
