Skid plate adds a good look to an other wise "open "space on the bike. Offers a lot of surface area to deflect with. Also the flat bottom provides a better surface for a motorcycle jack than OEM. My only concern would be the upper bracket has two studs on the inside (I feel they should be a bolt and nut}; if they ever bent from a hit they would be a pita to get it off.
