California Scooter Company (CSC) was founded by Steve Seidner, an experienced entrepreneur with deep family roots spanning over 60 years in the motorcycle industry. His passion for classic Mustang motorcycles, a unique line produced by Mustang Motor Products in the 1950s, inspired CSC’s creation. These compact, scooter-sized bikes were known for their quality, distinctive style, and racing legacy. After purchasing a 1953 Mustang and joining the Mustang Motorcycle Club, Steve recognized an opportunity to revive the iconic design with modern enhancements.

In 2008, Steve founded CSC with guidance from Jim Cavanaugh, a former Mustang Production Manager. Although he respected the Mustang name and didn’t use it, Steve designed motorcycles that captured the spirit of the originals. CSC’s bikes are lightweight, fuel-efficient, and updated with essential modern features such as electric start, modern suspension, turn signals, and emissions control, allowing for customization with a range of accessories. With over 90 miles per gallon fuel efficiency, CSC successfully revived the classic Mustang’s essence for a new generation, offering a blend of retro style and modern performance.

CSC's original Mustang-inspired motorcycle featured a 150cc engine. In 2012, CSC began collaborating with Zongshen, a major Chinese motorcycle manufacturer, to develop a 250cc engine for the Mustang. During this partnership, Zongshen presented CSC with a plan to expand into the U.S. market, introducing CSC to the RX3 Adventure—a 250cc, fuel-injected adventure motorcycle with a 6-speed transmission. At that time, no similar bike existed in the U.S., as major manufacturers largely ignored the demand for smaller adventure motorcycles. Seeing a unique opportunity, CSC moved forward but set two conditions for Zongshen: a reliable supply of spare parts to support U.S. customers and a warranty to ensure customer satisfaction. Zongshen agreed, aligning with CSC’s standards for quality and support.

The RX3 Adventure launched in 2015 and quickly gained popularity, with demand outpacing supply. Building on this success, CSC introduced the TT250 Enduro, equipped with features like inverted forks, steel braided brake lines, and a counter-balanced engine. The TT250 earned acclaim as the "best value motorcycle" from Morocycles.com. Customer enthusiasm led CSC to develop the SG250 Cafe Racer, powered by the proven 250cc engine from the TT250 and 250 Mustang, designed in the popular café racer style and offered at an affordable price.

As demand grew, CSC expanded their lineup to include the RX4 Adventure—a larger 450cc version of the RX3 with enhanced comfort features—which became another success. Since then, CSC has added various new models to their portfolio, including gas-powered options like the SG400 and RX6 Sport Touring. CSC has also diversified into the electric market with models such as the RX1E, ES5 electric scooter, and the ERT3 electric scooter, continuing their mission to offer innovative and accessible motorcycles that charm with modern reliability and performance.
